When I saw the picture waiting for me to be painted in my Watercolor studies with the Artist Pito Campos, I said this is a peaceful moment at sea, and I decided to title Calm Before the Journey. Three schooners rested anchored, their sails unfurled and at rest, as they awaited the wind to carry them forward. The scene evoked a sense of serenity and quiet anticipation. For me, the challenge in this piece was capturing the stillness of the water and the reflection of the ships in a way that conveyed both the calm of the moment and the sense of waiting before the journey continued. I felt timeless and imagined the gentle lapping of the waves and the soft breeze in the air.

I also focused on rendering the reflections with enough detail to feel like a mirror of the schooners, yet not so precise that it detracted from the softness of the painting.
